Rule #1: Think About Earning More Not Spending Less

 Blogging tips

Hey guys! Sorry for not updating this blog, as am busy working on my new niche site, which am going to share here in coming weeks.

Last week I met a person who was hungry to make money online, so explained him few ways on how to make money online. Most easiest way according to me for that person was through blogging, so I recommended him to start a blog of his interested niche. And asked him to give complete information to user regarding the topic.

He asked me, how much can I earn monthly?spend more to earn more

Yes, I was expecting this question from him. This is what many new bloggers ask. I said, it depends on various factors, like CPC if you’re monetizing with Adsense, number of sales you’re making if it’s affiliate marketing etc…

But, he asked me same question, roughly how much I can make in a month.

I can give him any number, but am afraid as it depends on his work and dedication. So I showed him my earning, and other fellow bloggers earning (he is my friend’s friend so revealed :)).

Then he asked about how and from where to start. Select one domain name, then hosting, I said.

He interrupted asking me how much it cost?

I said this much (amount), all of a sudden I noticed that his anxiety was missing when he heard about cost. Then I asked him, if you’re starting an offline business will you not invest?

He answered, yes I will.

This is investment for your online business. Advised him not to think about making money, just think about giving complete information to user, then money flows. Start only if you’re interested, there are many other offline ways to make money more than online and left it to him.

So this how many new bloggers are starting and ending up there blogging career.

To earn more you must spend more

Like the person about whom I discussed above, everyone including me think that online is only place to make quick money. You don’t believe when I was newbie I thought why I see unemployment in India when you can make easy money through online.

Now I laugh at me :)

Years and months passed, now I know what it takes to make money through online. It takes work, hard work, dedication, time, patience, right strategy, firm decision, strong belief  and sometimes luck!

So friends, reason why am writing this post is, you must now realize that blogging is your business and whatever you’re spending is investment on your business it may or may not return.

But when you spend on right thing, chances of getting profit is more. What are those things?

There are many I can’t list all of them here, but few of them are:

  1. Hosting, good hosting pays you back. I strong recommend Hostgator or Bluehost for this. (For new bloggers, dedicated hosting for top blogs).
  2. For blog designing, I recommend to hire designer for this work, Neil Patel of invested $20K for designing,  and he got them back! (Don’t spend high when you don’t have zero users). I recommend Genesis framework, cheap and reliable. (affiliate link)
  3. Then comes quality content, improve your writing or hire quality writers.
  4. Use best email marketing service – Mailchimp or Aweber.
  5. To improve website speed I use MaxCDN – a content delivery network. It share your files to various server location decreasing the access time.
  6. And domain name, for branding domains you can check out WordPress related domain names.

Well these are most essential and for fully loaded blog. But yes there are many who’re working on blogger platform, but I don’t think it’s safe to be dependent on those services and when your blog is about blogging and making money do you think users will trust you when you recommend hosting which you’re not using?

Okay guys, one more thing. Don’t read and leave. Act now! Else someone will take the chance.

Here’s my story about host gator and about problems I faced with cheap hosting services.

    Hi Khaja,
Those things like good host, good theme and a CDN definitely pay you back. A domain name targeting niche is also crucial. Sometimes, a domain name is not available, in that case we may have to spend more in buying that domain from its existing master. But it does pay off in the long term.

It is great in seeing you back once more Khaja.
That was a thought-provoking post as usual from your end. Blogging of course is a business but it is something many are failing in realising that.

    Hi Khaja,

Great tips and I think that it’s impossible to start a business without spending some money. Sure you can set up a blog on Blogspot, but then you don’t own it.

The sources that you recommend in spending such as domain and hosting are the only things that are needed to start a blog. I haven’t used Genesis themes, but have seen quite a few themes that I like.

A good theme is a must, but you can always invest in a paid theme later once you start making an income. Of course it won’t hurt to have a great looking theme at the beginning. Thanks for sharing and I hope you have a great day.

    Hey Khaja,

Are those get rich quick scheme still floating around online? I guess I haven’t Googled this is so long I’m not sure but obviously they are if people still think they can come online and make money without investing anything.

People hear the phrase, you can start for free, and they go nuts. Like they seriously believe that they can make big bucks without investing anything but their time?

I knew coming online I would have to invest money but I was just clueless to what was involved so I had no idea but I knew it would be something. Hope your friend’s friend decided to go for it anyway because I do think he’ll enjoy the experience.

Thanks for sharing and good luck with your niche site.

Some very good points here, not only in the main post, but also in the intelligent comments that people have made – many thanks. Just as other small businesses, I especially liked this quote: ” It takes work, hard work, dedication, time, patience, right strategy, firm decision, strong belief and sometimes luck!” This is the same rules every entrepreneur should follow. I hope that your new niche site does very well.

This is great advice. We must be prepared to invest money in order to make money. It’s true in all businesses and should be no different with blogs.

I take this a step further too. I probably shouldn’t, but I refuse to live my life based on my income. I don’t go crazy and not pay my bills, but I certainly like to go out to eat and to live life. If I want to have more money saved I am going to earn more money.

I think it’s very limiting when we base our life and our business around our current income.

Great points Khaja! I think of it as an investment now. My blog is going on 3 years and I’m toying with paying for a redesign and some fixes before finding more ways to earn from it. I could try to do it myself but it would take time away from writing posts and being on social. I fear I’d lose traction. I’ve tried changing up my theme but it’s custom and I need to learn more CSS which reminds me I have to check out those classes for January at the local college, thanks for the reminder on that one too!

    Hi Khaja,

We must invest time, energy and money to earn money online.

Successful bloggers have no time to be cheap. Pay it. Present a professional site than bust your tail to fill the site with helpful, targeted content…..and then you will earn more and more money online.

    Thanks for sharing!

If people are monetizing their blog via services than they should start making money immediately. If they are focusing on affiliates so they need exact targeted traffic to convert into the leads and if they are planning to monetize with adsense than they should do keyword research wisely and will need lots of traffic because 1k – 2k visits daily wont help you to pay your bills.

I think your friend have the right to be worried about this kind of investment, because it would take a whole year at least to start to get good results from a blog,
he’s gonna pay with a hope that after a year or so of hard work, his blog might earn the money back, it’s a not practical thing to start a blog to make money, it’s a hobby you do for fun and maybe months in the future it’ll make you money,
also i think you should share with us your earnings why just your friend ??
for me i believe that this good earning story from blogs is just a myth, and the total cost of hosting and online expenses to start a blog is relatively small, so if your friend was hesitant to spend 100-200$ on a blog that means the numbers he saw in your earning was simply not worth the risk.
if this is working for you my friend then i would be really happy for you and i wish you all the best but for me i never believed in the power of earnings of a blog, at least not until i see detailed analytics and reports with my own eyes.
    Many thanks and Best wishes!

I dont think it’s about spending less.. I would say it’s about spending smart.

I love to read Last Month’s Earning Report from blog because I think Pat Flynn really do a great job listing where he got the income and spent the money. From what I see, he spent the money in a smart way to boost his income.

If you spending less but dont get the best results and outcomes for your blog, then you can’t see money coming from your blog next month. :D
